Whey is a protein obtained from cow’s milk and more precisely from whey. The whey is filtered and then dehydrated to become the powdered product you know. Whey Isolate is the most popular whey protein. This is the newer version of protein powder. It differs from classic whey by its process of microfiltration and ultrafiltration which separates proteins from fat and lactose. It thus contains less lipids and carbohydrates and little lactose (less than 0.2%). More pure, whey isolate is also richer in protein, its rate exceeds 90%.

Whey or whey isolate, which is the best protein? Contrary to popular belief, neither is better than the other. They are both very good protein powders which help build muscle mass and cell regeneration. Which one or the other is going to depend on your nutritional and muscle goals, as well as your digestive system.

In other words, if you are building muscle or want to strengthen your immune system, go for organic whey instead.

If you are looking to maintain a low body fat level and are in a “dry” period, prefer whey isolate which is less rich in carbohydrates and fat. People with lactose intolerance will also prefer whey Isolate.

Vegetable proteins, the vegan alternative to whey!

It is often mistakenly thought that vegetable proteins are incomplete in terms of nutrition unlike animal proteins. However, not only can they provide sufficient protein (80%), but also have health benefits (reduced risk of diabetes and cardiovascular disease). Rich in amino acids (more than 18%), vegetable proteins offer an excellent contribution close to that of whey.

The main difference between these three products lies in the manufacturing process and the origin of the materials. Whey is of animal origin unlike organic proteins of plant origin. Organic whey and vegetable proteins do not contain as much protein (80% respectively) as whey isolate (94%). The isolate also has less carbohydrates and fat than organic whey.

– The digestion of proteins

Poor, even lactose-free, whey isolate and vegetable proteins are easier to digest and assimilate.

– The taste

From a taste point of view, organic whey has a slightly more marked and milky taste than the isolate, which is less rich in fat and lactose. A little more textured, vegetable proteins have a greener taste because of their vegetable origin.
