Organic whey, whey isolate or vegetable protein: what to choose?
The consumption of protein is essential in the diet of an athlete. Whether you are an amateur or a professional, a bodybuilding enthusiast or concerned about your nutrition, you have surely heard of whey protein powder. Indispensable, it is the food supplement most popular with athletes.
At Nutripure we offer two kinds of whey: organic native whey and native isolate whey. A third alternative exists for vegetarian athletes thanks to powdered vegetable proteins.
But what’s the difference between these proteins and which one to take? We tell you everything in this article!
What is whey protein?
Did you know that powdered baby milk is very close to whey!
Whey is a protein obtained from cow’s milk and more precisely from whey. The whey is filtered and then dehydrated to become the powdered product you know. Depending on the extraction technique used, a more or less pure powder is obtained. There are thus different types of whey: organic whey, known as “classic”, and whey isolate.
With high nutritional value, whey contains all the essential amino acids as well as BCAAs (branched chain amino acids). Whey protein is therefore used to build, repair and maintain muscles. It is suitable for both amateur and experienced athletes, as well as for people who want to follow a balanced diet. It can be consumed at any time of the day, ideally before and after exercise.
Whey protein is recognized for its many benefits:
- muscle development
- muscle recovery
- sports performance
- strengthening the immune system
- maintaining the frame
- satiety and fat loss
- and even good humor!
Of course, whey is not a substitute for a diet that is naturally a source of protein. Easy to consume, this product complements your daily protein intake.
What is native organic whey?
Whey is the most basic form of protein powder. It is an undenatured milk protein that contains a huge number of beneficial nutrients. High quality, this product is rich in amino acids, BCAAs and proteins (80%) . It also includes lactose and fat.
What is whey isolate?
Whey Isolate is the most popular whey protein. This is the newer version of protein powder. It differs from classic whey by its process of microfiltration and ultrafiltration which separates proteins from fat and lactose. It thus contains less lipids and carbohydrates and little lactose (less than 0.2%). More pure, whey isolate is also richer in protein, its rate exceeds 90%.
Organic whey or Whey Isolate: what type of whey to take?
Whey or whey isolate, which is the best protein? Contrary to popular belief, neither is better than the other. They are both very good protein powders which help build muscle mass and cell regeneration. Which one or the other is going to depend on your nutritional and muscle goals, as well as your digestive system.
In other words, if you are building muscle or want to strengthen your immune system, go for organic whey instead.
If you are looking to maintain a low body fat level and are in a “dry” period, prefer whey isolate which is less rich in carbohydrates and fat. People with lactose intolerance will also prefer whey Isolate.
You can also combine the two proteins. Whey isolate can be taken in the morning for example, and organic whey as a snack before or after your workout.
While whey protein has long been recognized as the best product for bodybuilding, new studies have shown the effectiveness of plant proteins, especially those from peas and rice.

Vegetable proteins, the vegan alternative to whey!
It is often mistakenly thought that vegetable proteins are incomplete in terms of nutrition unlike animal proteins. However, not only can they provide sufficient protein (80%), but also have health benefits (reduced risk of diabetes and cardiovascular disease). Rich in amino acids (more than 18%), vegetable proteins offer an excellent contribution close to that of whey.
Appreciated by people following a vegetarian diet or quite simply by athletes wishing to vary their protein sources, organic proteins are an excellent compromise with animal proteins.
Plant proteins for whom?
100% vegetable and without ingredients of animal origin , they are perfect for vegetarians and vegans who need to ensure their daily intake of essential amino acids.
Lactose and gluten free, vegetable proteins are suitable for people with a sensitive digestive system.
Favored as part of a diet, organic proteins promote feelings of fullness and prevent muscle wasting.
Vegetable proteins are also ideal for supplementing an omnivorous diet and for gaining vitality and muscle building.
Just like whey, you can eat them for breakfast, as a snack or after exercise.
In summary: Organic whey VS Whey isolate VS Vegetable protein
You will understand the choice between these three proteins depends on your expectations and your needs. To help you you can take into account:
– Manufacturing
The main difference between these three products lies in the manufacturing process and the origin of the materials. Whey is of animal origin unlike organic proteins of plant origin. In addition, if the native whey is of organic quality and contains a little lactose, the isolate is not organic, but does not contain lactose.
– Protein and nutrition
Organic whey and vegetable proteins do not contain as much protein (80% respectively) as whey isolate (94%). The isolate also has less carbohydrates and fat than organic whey.
– The digestion of proteins
Poor, even lactose-free, whey isolate and vegetable proteins are easier to digest and assimilate.
– The taste
From a taste point of view, organic whey has a slightly more marked and milky taste than the isolate, which is less rich in fat and lactose. A little more textured, vegetable proteins have a greener taste because of their vegetable origin.
As a general rule, we advise you to choose pure products with a neutral taste that are easier to use in the kitchen and to which you can add the natural flavors of your choice.
– The price
There is not a significant price difference between the three products. The important thing is not to choose low-cost protein at the expense of quality. Check the composition and origin of the proteins carefully.
Nutripure has chosen not to compromise between the two, by offering healthy products at the best price.
